7.3.11.1 PRU-ICSS MII MDIO Overview

The following features are supported:

  • Clause 22 and Clause 45.
  • Up to 32 PHY addresses.
  • Two user access registers to control and monitor up to two PHYs simultaneously.
  • Peripheral interface for configuration and control (MII RT MDIO CFG)
  • Each PHY can be individually enabled to be polled.
  • The inter-poll gap between PHY polls can be changed.
  • State Change Mode of operation to monitor up to 32 PHYs simultaneously.
  • Manual control by software for GPIO operations.

The PRU-ICSS MII MDIO management I/F module implements the 802.3 serial management interface to interrogate and control two Ethernet PHYs simultaneously using a shared two-wire bus. Figure 7-91 shows a device with two MACs, each connected to an Ethernet PHY, being managed by the MII interface module using a shared bus.
