8.5.1 Flash Semaphore and Update Protection

Before program and erase operations can be performed, the currently running application must grab the Flash semaphore. The Flash semaphore is managed by the Safety and Security Unit, and can be grabbed by writing to the FLSEMREQ SSU register. For more information on how to use the Flash semaphore, see Section 9.9.

The device security architecture also provides mechanisms to protect Flash banks and sectors from program and erase operations for safety and security. For more on these protection mechanisms, see Section 9.9.1.
