23.2.2.6 Loopback mode

The SPI module can be placed into an internal loopback mode for diagnostic or debug work by setting the LBM bit in the CTL1 register. In loopback mode, the data from the TX FIFO can be serially transmitted into the RX FIFO. Data from the RX FIFO can be read to check whether the transmission was correct. External toggling of the IOs has no effect when the module is set to internal loopback mode.
