The current and shunt voltage measurements are interleaved to minimize time alignment errors in the power measurement. Figure 6-1 shows that power is calculated following the bus voltage measurement based on the previous current calculation and bus voltage measurement. The power calculation is performed in the background and does not add to the overall conversion times for bus voltage or current. These current and power values are considered intermediate results (unless the averaging is set to 1) and are stored in an internal accumulation register instead of the corresponding output registers. Following every measured sample, the newly-calculated values for current and power are appended to this accumulation register until all samples are measured and averaged based on the number of averages set in the MFR_ADC_CONFIG register.
Figure 6-1 Power Calculation SchemeIn addition to the current and power accumulating after every sample, the shunt and bus voltage measurements are also collected. After all samples are measured and the corresponding current and power calculations are made, the accumulated average for each parameter is then loaded to the corresponding output registers and can then be read.
