Introduction

The TPS51383 and TPS51384 are the single, D-CAP3™ mode, synchronous buck converters requiring a very low external component count. The TPS51383 provides a fixed 3.36-V 8-A maximum output along with a separate 3.3-V, 100-mA maximum LDO. The TPS51384 provides a fixed 1.82-V 8-A maximum output along with a separate 1.8-V, 100-mA maximum LDO. Both support switch-over functionality, specifically designed for a notebook power system. Their integrated low RDS(ON) power MOSFETs enable high efficiency and offer ease-of-use with a minimal external component count for space-constrained power systems. Features include the following:

  • Accurate reference voltage
  • Fast load transient response
  • Auto-skip mode operation for light load efficiency
  • OOA light load operation with > 25-kHz switching frequency
  • D-CAP3 control mode with good line, load regulation, and no requirement for external compensation

The TPS51383 and TPS51384 evaluation modules (EVM) are single, synchronous buck converter boards providing 3.36 V or 1.82 V at 8 A from a 4.5-V to 24-V input. This user’s guide describes the TPS51383 and TPS51384 EVM performance.
