James R. (Jim) Adams
Mr. Adams joined the TI board in 1989. He has held membership
on a majority of board committees, including Audit, Board Organization
and Nominating, Compensation, and Stockholder Relations and
Public Policy.
Prior to and concurrent with his early association with TI,
Mr. Adams had an extensive career in the telecommunications
industry. He joined Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1965,
the same year he earned an MBA in statistics and business finance
from the University of Texas in Austin. He began as a computer
supervisor in San Antonio, and, after holding many positions
throughout the country with Southwestern Bell and AT&T, he became
president of Southwestern Bell in 1988.
Mr. Adams retired from SBC Communications Inc., formerly Southwestern
Bell, in 1995. As Group President, he was responsible for international
operations, including the company's investment in Telefonos
de Mexico and domestic cable operations.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Adams participates
in a range of activities in business, government, civic affairs
and education. He currently serves on the boards of the Dallas
Citizens Council, the Telecom Corridor Technology Business Council
and the Dallas Symphony Association. He is a member of the Texas
A&M Capital Campaign Steering Committee, the Baylor University
Hankamer School of Business Advisory Board, and the University
of Texas Engineering School Advisory Council.
In addition to his MBA, Mr. Adams earned bachelor's degrees
in math and physics from Texas A&M University in 1961. |
