When any output is in on status (the corresponding Data Register bit is set to ‘1’), if the output current through the MOS is sensed to be larger than IOK, it enters chopping mode as below.
Figure 8-2 illustrates the output current characteristics of the device energizing a load having initially low, increasing resistance, For example, an incandescent lamp. In region 1, chopping occurs and the peak current is limited to IO(chop). In region 2, output current is continuous. The same characteristics occur in reverse order when the device energizes a load having an initially high, decreasing resistance.
