CIRCUIT060033

Low-drift, low-side, bidirectional current sensing circuit with integrated precision gain

CIRCUIT060033

Overview

The low-side bidirectional current-shunt monitor solution illustrated in the following image can accurately measure currents from –4 A to 4 A, and the design parameters can easily be changed for different current measurement ranges. Current-shunt monitors from the INA21x family have integrated precision gain resistors and a zero-drift architecture that enables current sensing with maximum drops across the shunt as low as 10-mV full-scale.
Features
  • Input: Iin = –4 A / 4 A, Vcm = 12.5 V
  • Output: 0.5 V to 4.5 V
  • Supply: Vs = 5 V, Vref = 2.5 V
Analog current-sense amplifiers
INA181 26-V bi-directional 350-kHz current-sense amplifier INA199 26V, bi-directional current sense amplifier INA214 26V, bi-directional, high-precision current sense amplifier
