Overview

The ISO14xx devices are isolated RS-485/RS-422 transceivers designed to operate in harsh industrial environments. ISO141x, ISO143x and ISO145x devices support up to 500 kbps, 12 Mbps and 50 Mbps signaling rates respectively. This family of devices has a 3-channel digital isolator and an RS-485 transceiver in a 16-pin wide-body SOIC package. The silicon-dioxide based capacitive isolation barrier supports an isolation withstand voltage of 5 kVRMS and an isolation working voltage of 1500 VPK. Isolation breaks the ground loop between the communicating nodes and allows for data transfer in the presence of large ground potential differences. These devices have a higher typical differential output voltage (VOD) than traditional transceivers for better noise immunity. A minimum differential output voltage of 2.1 V is specified at a VCC2 voltage of 5 V ±10% which meets the requirements for Profibus applications. The wide logic supply of the device (VCC1) supports interfacing with 1.8-V, 2.5-V, 3.3-V, and 5-V control logic. The 3-V to 5.5-V bus side supply (VCC2) removes the need of a well-regulated isolated supply in end systems. Figure 46 shows the functional block diagram of the full-duplex devices and Figure 47 shows the functional block diagram of a half-duplex devices.
